Volunteers
The Arc of Butler County has a variety of volunteer opportunities available.
Examples for volunteers:
- Thursday Night Parties: volunteers are needed to chaperone from September through May.
- Companions: volunteers are matched with adults to provide excursions into the community, help with chores, and attending social/recreational events.
- Information and Health Fairs: The Arc of Butler County has many opportunities to participate in local Information and Health Fairs. Volunteers are needed to staff these public displays.
Committees
The Arc of Butler County's Board President is responsible for appointing members and chairpersons for all Select Committees, except the Nominating Committee. It is also the Board President's responsibility to ensure that each committee chairperson clearly understands the duties and authority of the committee. It is in the best interest of The Arc of Butler County that such duties and authority be reduced to a written committee description.
Residential Standing Committee
The Residential Standing Committee is responsible for oversight of all Residential programs,
including: group homes,
Family Living, Supported Housing, and Semi-Independent Living. Primary responsibilities of the
Residential Committee
are: providing advice and assistance to the program director, and making recommendations to the
Board of Directors.
Vocational Standing Committee
The Vocational Standing Committee is responsible for oversight of all vocational programs,
including: Sheltered
Workshop, PARC Productions, and Supportive Work. Primary responsibilities of the Vocational
Committee are: providing
advice and assistance to the program director, and making recommendations to the Board of
Directors.
Advocacy/Governmental Affairs Committee
The Advocacy/Governmental Affairs Committee is responsible for oversight of this agency's
advocacy efforts at the
local, state, and federal levels. The Advocacy/Governmental Affairs Committee shall collaborate
and coordinate with
The Arc of Pennsylvania and The Arc of the United States to support progressive legislation to
benefit individuals
with cognitive, intellectual and developmental disabilities. This committee will keep the
agency's membership and
the general public aware of laws, regulations, and issues that affect constituents of The Arc.
Finance Committee
The ability of The Arc of Butler County to meet the needs of citizens with cognitive,
intellectual and developmental
disabilities depends upon careful and responsible fiscal management. The Finance Committee is
responsible for
reviewing the preparation of annual budgets and submitting such budgets to the Board of
Directors for approval. The
Finance Committee shall ensure that the financial records of the The Arc of Butler County are
audited annually by a
certified public accountant.
Internal Affairs Committee
The Arc of Butler County employs staff to carry out programs and services provided by this
agency. The Internal
Affairs Committee is responsible to regularly review and recommend to the Board of Directors
personnel policies and
other internal policies, as directed by the Board, to enhance the administration of the
organization. The Internal
Affairs Committee's primary duties involve development of agency employment policies and
procedures, and making
recommendations to the Board of Directors relevant to such matters.
Membership Committee
The future of The Arc of Butler County is dependent on building and maintaining a strong
membership. The Membership
Committee is responsible for providing information to potential members about The Arc of Butler
County, and for
conducting an ongoing campaign to recruit new members. The Membership Committee will coordinate
and collaborate on
membership issues with The Arc of Pennsylvania and The Arc of the United States.
Public Relations/Fundraising Committee
The Public Relations/Fundraising Committee is responsible for oversight of public
relations/marketing activities and
fundraising activities at The Arc of Butler County. This committee will ensure that the
dissemination of information
and the conduct of events and activities associated with public relations, marketing, and
fundraising adhere to the
agency's Policy on Marketing, Public Relations, and Fundraising; and, on the procedures employed
by the agency
relevant to such matters.
Social Activities Committee
A well-rounded life includes recreation, socialization, physical fitness, and leisure
activities. The Social
Activities Committee was authorized by the board of directors to assist people with cognitive,
intellectual and
developmental disabilities to access recreational, social, health and physical fitness, and
leisure opportunities in
Butler County.
Long Range Planning Committee
The Arc of Butler County must provide for a regular review and evaluation of its strategic plan.
The Long Range
Planning Committee is responsible for an annual review of such strategic plan.
Nominating Committee
The Bylaws of The Arc of Butler County require, under Article VI Committees Section 6.5
Nominating Committee, that
“There shall be a Nominating Committee composed of three (3) members of the Corporation. Two (2)
members of the
Nominating Committee shall be appointed by the Board of Directors from among its members, and
one (1) member of the
Nominating Committee shall be appointed by the Board of Directors from among those members of
the Corporation who
are not also members of the Board of Directors.” Additionally the Bylaws state “Subject to
earlier termination by
death, resignation, or removal, each member of the Nominating Committee shall remain on the
Committee until his/her
successor is appointed and approved."
